Blue Investment
Experience and
ECC’s Pillars
The blue economy and climate adaptation and resilience are deeply interconnected through the ocean-climate nexus, the recognition that healthy ocean systems are foundational to climate stability, economic durability, and global food security. Investments in coastal protection, sustainable ports, water systems, and resilient marine infrastructure safeguard critical assets while strengthening natural defenses against climate risks such as sea-level rise and extreme weather. These investments reduce physical vulnerabilities and support long-term productivity across energy, water, and industrial infrastructure. At the same time, the blue economy is central to the energy transition through offshore low-carbon energy, nature-based solutions and decarbonized maritime transport, positioning ocean resilience as a cornerstone of climate-resilient infrastructure and sustainable economic growth.
Equilibrium Climate Capital’s leadership brings deep experience in ocean and Blue finance, a perspective that strengthens the firm’s approach to climate-resilient infrastructure across its three investment pillars.
Valeria Ramundo Orlando
ECC’s Managing Partner and Founder of Greensquare Ventures, has spent more than a decade structuring and mobilizing capital for ocean-positive finance, including innovative Blue, Green, and sustainability-linked instruments. Her work has linked capital markets to marine conservation, coastal protection, and sustainable blue-economy solutions, informing how ECC approaches Water Resilience, particularly flood defense, water security, and climate-adaptive infrastructure for cities, industry, and coastal communities.
Rolando Morillo
ECC’s Managing Partner and a 25-year veteran of thematic investing, has led and advised strategies across climate, nature, and ocean-related finance, including vehicles that integrate ecosystem protection with durable returns. His experience across global markets, governments, and institutional investors reinforces ECC’s focus on Infrastructure Resilience, especially transport, energy, and urban systems where natural and built systems intersect, and where asset durability depends on climate-aware design and delivery.
Their shared work in Blue finance first brought them together professionally and continues to shape ECC’s approach to Health Resilience, including climate-resilient healthcare facilities, cooling systems, and emergency preparedness in water-stressed and climate-exposed communities.
At ECC, this Blue finance heritage reinforces a systems-level view of resilience that connects engineered infrastructure with natural systems, water security, and community well-being. While the firm invests primarily in EPC-led delivery platforms, its leadership’s ocean and coastal experience strengthens its commitment to solutions that protect water resources, shorelines, and vulnerable populations alongside economic growth.
